Rude Awakening

What is up with America?  I am so embarrassed over the behavior of our politicians, elite athletes and entertainers.  In the last week we have seen the President of our country heckled by a congressman, a top tennis player curse and threaten the judge for a call she disagreed with, and a musician make a spectacle of himself.  What has happened in America?
This is what our kids get to see as role models. Ill behaved politicians that don't even have respect for the President, regardless if they agree with him or not. Poor sports and entertainers that have no boundaries at all. America had better get a handle or we face a really rude and out of control society in our children's future. I have to wonder if the rampant rudeness and lack of respect seen doesn't somehow relate to the evaporation of God as our foundation within our society. Taking the highest and most important authority out of our everyday lives seems to be leading to a culture that no longer values respect at any level. I hope we can instill in our kids respect for themselves, their parents, their teachers, their country and God despite a rude America that surrounds them.

“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.”
~Benjamin Franklin

The "me generation" - a person becomes successful and develops an exaggerated sense of self importance. The world revolves around them. They can now say and do anything they want to because they are famous. Then they find out their behavior has bad consequences. Then they try apologize to weazel out of it. Our kids can learn by their bad example if as parents we discuss their actions and consequeces with our kids and grandkids.

Plain and simple, these people lack class.

Old Russian proverb - "The worst wheel on the cart makes the most noise." So true.

Entertainer or "jackass"?

Unfortunately those are the stories that make headlines these days. I don't know about you, but for me it is hard to arrive at a balance. Should you use these incidents as lessons, or ignore them all together? In some ways it is good to see that even the President has moments of weakness/poor judgement and moving forward you learn from your mistakes and weak moments. One thing I know for sure - it is rough out there!

Hope you are all going well.

Or, hope things are going well and that you are doing well. Like I said it is rough out there.

I totally agree with you. Where do people get their sense of entitlement???
And I totally agree with you about the President. Nobody is going to agree with what he does 100% of the time, but we all can show him respect 100% of the time, while still disagreeing with him or what he believes in.
If we do not put God as our first authority, priority, and leader, He will show us what the consequences of that are. It's just sad that the people that represent "Americans" can't show love, compassion, and grace to one another, and set a positive example for the next generation.
Well said Katie!
