Camp Chick Karlie

There was a theme this year for birthdays where the kids chose to do something with us rather than a gift.  I suppose  nothing is more special than some one on one time with mom or dad.
Karlie loves to camp and wanted to go desert camping with dad for her birthday.

The only trouble is finding a weekend free to do it.  One Friday afternoon the two of them headed out of town.  They had planned to find a new camp site out 4 Peaks Wilderness Road.  Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate.  It was a windy afternoon and at the top of the ridge line gusts were reaching 30 mph.  Not a good way to spend the night.  So they headed back down the road to the same site we found when we went as a family.  Karlie was adamant she was going to run the camp!
Max's invention of the Home Depot toilet might be the greatest camping invention since the tent!  First priority is to set up the potty.  :)
She split all the wood for the fire (with appropriate eye protection).
She gathered dry grass, built the log cabin, and lit the fire all on her own.
She opened and seasoned the T-bone steaks (her choice for camp dinner).
She set up the sleeping arrangements in the back of the Jeep.
She shot her pellet gun until she cut the pop can in half (Max didn't take a single shot).
Finally she found some time to sit back and relax and enjoy the sunset with the Arizona flag whipping in the wind.
There is just something about powdered donuts for breakfast and camping...
The next morning Karlie help pack up and she drove the Jeep two thirds of the way down the mountain.  All in all, it was a great birthday experience for our camp chick and Max.
