Thompson Peak

With only four weeks until our Rim 2 Rim hike Max and I were trying to hike as much as possible.  However, the weekends are full of kids sports and church obligations which make it difficult to find hours of time to carve out to hike together.  Often Max would get up early before work and I would go durning the day.
One morning we decided to get up before sunrise and hike to the top of Thompson Peak.  We needed to be home by nine for church and brunch with a big group of friends.
It was a gorgeous hike.  We were the first ones on the trail and got to watch the sun rise over Four Peaks.  I had to stop and smell the cactus.  They have a surprisingly sweet smell.
With the cell phone towers at the top, it is not a peak you want to linger on and enjoy the views, especially with signs telling of radiation hazards.
We hustled down the mountain that has an incredible 30 degree road grade!  I was happy to have my new poles for the way up.  It felt better to walk backwards most of the time.  We made it back to the car in less than 4 hours roundtrip.  Not bad to get nine hard miles in before nine am!
I didn't have any guilt testing out the mimosa flight at the Hash kitchen.  We had a wonderful morning reconnecting with friends and pigging out at brunch.
When we got home it was time to clean the house and get ready to host the Student Life party for the church.
The pizza calculator told me to order 10 pizzas for 40 people.  Take my advice and don't use the pizza calculator!!  We had 9 left over.  But once the teenage boys heard there was free pizza they began to haul boxes of pizza out.  What a busy day!!
